The new Ghostbusters will have an all-female cast, but after much resistance from original ‘Buster Bill Murray, he will indeed be back for the reboot, which will be hitting theaters July 22, 2016.
Dan Aykroyd has tried to get the original Ghostbusters crew together for another go round, but Murray was famously uninterested, even reportedly shredding the script, then sending it back to Aykroyd. But now reports tell us he will indeed be back, but nobody knows if it will be a big or a small role. (Murray told David Letterman he’d do it if they kill him off in the first reel.)
The whole point of the next ‘Busters is that it will have a whole new team, this time all female, but considering the following the original movie has, fans everywhere should be ecstatic that Murray will indeed return, even if it won’t be in a starring role.
For the Ghostbusters franchise to have any hope of resurrection, it had to be reinvented in some way, and making it an all female cast in an interesting idea, especially with Melissa McCarthy having a big run of success at the box office. Now that Bill Murray’s finally agreed to come back, it will have a nice little piece of the original to come along with it.
